Check my rhyme it’s Brontë Turner’s book blog time!
Since I was a nipper I have loved the written word
Note the photographic evidence here, I was a toddler nerd
When I was young, this was not an issue
Everyone clapped and said ‘It’s educational!
Better on the Blyton than sniffing glue
Perhaps she won’t steal cars if she is reading Camus’
But my oh my how times have changed
Now people look at me like I am deranged
Just cos I loiter in Waterstones sniffing the books
Reading while walking and getting bad looks
Then I joined Facebook and things got worse
Plagued my crew with essays about this and that verse
They said, ‘woman this obsession must be contained a bit
Facebook’s for cat videos, not this sh*t’
So my family and friends they staged an intervention
Told me to create a blog to avoid medication
So here it is, virtual pen to virtual paper
All about what I’m reading and other bookish capers
You can contact me either via the comments section on this blog or via my blog’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/BrontesPageTurners/. Apologies for not rapping this last bit. The spirit of Tupac abandoned me.
Oh lovely pic! Wonderful to meet a fellow bibliophile with similar not-so-social tendencies 🙂

Thank you! Yes my friends genuinely did have to intervene!

This was awesome! Anne is my favorite Brontë…do you like her work?

Thank you very much! I do like Anne. She is much underrated compared to her sisters. I recently read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and found it really quite ‘modern’ in terms of how it dealt with someone who was essentially a female victim of domestic abuse. I think AB’s having a resurgence on the basis of the feminist prism some of her work can be viewed through, which can only be a good thing!

I think that after reading ‘The Tenant of Wildfowl Hall’, some years ago, I first considered blogging about books I’ve read and I’ve loved. I guess that’s what impressed me most , too- that AB wasn’t by far as famous as her sisters, and that , all the while, she had such an impressive, down-to-earth, realistic approach. There are books that make you say , ‘Gosh, this really deserves far more exposure than it ever got’, and this was definitely one of them

***** autocorrection! Wildfell Hall, naturally, not Wildfowl 😛

I have developed a fantastic ability to navigate using only my peripheral vision. It’s an ability that I am sure is useful for more than reading while walking…

Love your About page. Have you visited the Bronte Parsonage at Haworth? I did once many years ago along with walk on the Moor. Feels so real to experience where authors write their books

Shockingly I haven’t – although my mum and I have promised ourselves that we are going to do the trip together soon. I can’t wait. I am also hoping I can get in places for free ha!

I like your poetic introduction! I also love the scent of books and have happy memories of visiting W. H. Smiths with my grandfather. Whenever I pass Smiths the smell of books and magazines wafting into my nostrils reminds me of happy times visiting the shop with my grandfather. Best. Kevin

Heya! Your blog is one of my absolute favourites and I know that it deserves more followers than it has. Therefore, I’ve nominated you for the Leibster Award! I know that you’ve already done one; so it’s alright if you don’t want a repeat. But I really hope that your blog gains more followers because it really deserves some. You can see my post here if you were interested: https://midnightranterblog.wordpress.com/2016/06/04/liebster-awards/
And aagin, you’re of course free to not do it 🙂
Also, great way of introduction! And I completely know the feeling of that absurd social dejection as I have been there myself.

Just came across your blog via The Reading Bug – you’d liked the most recent post. As my much-loved but sadly now deceased dog was named Bronte, and the sisters are among my favourite authors, I had to look you up. When I saw your pic of you with Hodge the cat – I too have posed there, several times over the years – I knew we had to be kindred spirits. I look forward to reading your posts. Simon

First off, You went and done it. You went and followed Uncle Bardie’s Stories & Such. You are now one of Uncle Bardie’s Band of Merry Followers. Just so you know, Uncle Bardie’s a hoot, and he’s got quite a few whoppers in his bag of stories. Some funny, some not so funny. But all told for your entertainment. Thank you for following his blog.
I would add to the Camus line: Could it be that she has gone existentialist, or even become a Sisyphusian absurdist? Oh, well. At least, she’ll still mourn the death of her mother.
Finally, I am currently reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami and I can’t seem to put it down. I am 300 pages into it. Would like to recommend it.

I just love your site, seriously professional, but also bright and airy, offering suggestion of adventure and excitement. Thank you for giving me a few moments of real enjoyment. I zoomed through ‘Naked Civil Servant’ and I’m hoping to learn from your style as I follow you in future. Last and by no means least, love the pic, I assume you and your little one?

Thank you very much for your supportive words! I really appreciate it. I love blogging for its own sake but it’s always nice when people say they like what you do,so thank you! I will be keeping an eye on your blog too – I love reading about others’ views of books and getting ideas for future reads. Feels like a real community! And the little one in the pic is actually me, with my ma, a fair few decades ago – but I look forward to recreating the pic with my own baby one day, just for the giggles!!! Thanks for following and happy reading to you!
