Please be presented with the reason for my recent neglect of this blog: Master Rufus Frank Turner George, born in a blaze of glory (well, an emergency c-section – I like to give things a positive spin) at 2.21am on Tuesday 18th July.
The past six weeks have been something of a twilight zone, largely because Rufus is somehow getting hold of amphetamines which keep him up all day and night. Yes I know this sounds unlikely, given he is a newborn child and resident of the fairly salubrious London Borough of Bromley, but his father and I feel it is the only plausible explanation for his sleep ‘patterns’. Please see picture below: boob milk may be magic but surely it can’t induce this level of hysteria?
However, I’m hoping to come up for air soon and post about some of the books I have found interesting during this pregnancy and first weeks of motherhood, if his Royal Rufusness takes a pause from demanding tit n cuddles (#gottadreamadream). I miss blogging, and I miss all the bloggers I interact with.
As you can see, Rufus is already building up a collection of books, gifts from lots of lovely people. It may be the sleep deprivation talking but Dear Zoo is an especially gripping tale. I can’t promise that future posts will not be focused on books of this genre, or that every other sentence will not be ‘I love my little baby, he did an excellent poo today, the perfect hue of yellow-brown’, but if you are prepared to bear with, then I will be eternally grateful!!
*Only Fools and Horses reference, when Del Boy becomes a father. Classic British TV clip!
Congrats! Awesome to see you’re helping him discover books already.

Thank you! I am reading them to him – lord knows what he thinks of this, in his oh-so-new state, but I figure it can’t do any harm!!

Congratulations! I always cry at that episode of OFAH, every single time. It’s the speech he does to his mum *sob*

Congrats! My daughter’s first favourite book was ‘Dear Zoo’ too. Good luck ‘coming up for air’! I’m now the stay-home-parent to a 2+ year old and can only post every three weeks or so and am about 4 books behind in my reviews!

Thank you! Given how the past few weeks have been, I can imagine how that can happen!!

Congratulations. The sleepless nights won’t go on forever. (It just feels like it.) My granddaughter seems to have found the amphetamines too, as she sleeps little and not very often.
I do recommend ‘Dear Zoo’, possibly when Rufus is about 1 and can understand the story.

He seems to!! I will have to tread a fine balance between encouraging him to read and not being a pushy mum!
