The Bible

For the last Christmas Week post, a tiny book that reminds me what Christmas is all about. Not just its important religious aspect, but love, family and the people we miss at Christmas.

This little Bible belonged to my Nanny Turner, but, as the inscription shows, it originally belonged to her little sister Pat, who died very young. I find it very touching that Nan kept this keepsake of her little sister for all of those years. We never stop missing people.

I also love all the treasures that I found within this Bible – the very cute old-fashioned Bible cards, and the notes from Nan, which include a message to my cousin Darcie to ‘tell (my aunt) Maria about my swollen leg’ and an annotated clipping of one of her (many) heartthrobs, Philip Glenister.

As you can probably tell from the amount of times I mention them on this blog (sorry), I miss my Nanny Turner a lot, and treasure each Christmas I can still spend with my Nanny Iris. I’m sure there are people you are missing this festive season, and others you feel grateful to still be able to celebrate Christmas with. Here’s to them, here’s to you, and here’s to a peaceful and merry Christmas for everyone!
